Known issues.
Before you join, here are a few things to be aware of.... we've got a couple wee issues.

We're working on everything you see below, and will try to keep you informed about where we're at with solving these regularly.

If you have looked at these issues and the Help & FAQs and don't have the answers you need, do log a problem, or contact us and chat with one of the Skinny reps.

iPhone / iOS issues
Most of our issues are now fixed.

The best way to ensure an optimal experience on Skinny with your Apple iOS device is to:
  • Make sure you are running the latest version of iOS - verson 5.1 (or later as releases occur)
  • Make sure you have the latest verison of the Skinny carrier settings installed

To check or update your version of iOS

Go to 'Settings / General / Software update' and follow the prompts.

To update carrier settings
Go to 'Settings / General / About' and  check you see 'Skinny 12.1' listed as the Carrier.

If not, your iPhone should prompt you via a 'push message'  to update your carrier settings automatically. Make sure you say yes / accept when promoted.

Personal hotspot
To get personal hotspot working if you are having issues, check the following:

  • Make sure you are running iOS 5.1
  • Go to 'Settings / General /  Network / Mobile data network'
  • Set the APN for internet tethering to wapaccess.co.nz
  • Sorted

Getting data working if you don't want to upgrade to IOS 5.1
Some users on earlier iOS versions, especially iPhone 3GS, 4 or 4S users who do not want to oupgrade to iOS 5.1, may need to manually configure their APN settings to be compatible with Skinny.

You can:

1) Use this special Skinny Apple mobile.config file, or..

2) Go to unlockit.co.nz and use their custom APN builder, like this:
  • Select the create a custom APN option
  • Select New Zealand as your country (obviously)
  • Select Skinny as your carrier (as the new guys, we're at the bottom of the list)
  • Install the file (press OK if warned about this file replacing an existing file, that's all good)
  • Done

Using FaceTime
If you are having difficulty using FaceTime with iOS5.1, change the number you are calling into international format.

E.g. if the number you are calling is 0204 0123 456 change this to +64 204 0123 456 (add the + country code bit and drop the first zero) and FaceTime should work.

Android Issues
Most of the Android phones we sell at Skinny run on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and the network and all Skinny functions and services have been tested extensively on this version of the Android OS.

Some devices running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) have experienced issues using our Skinny Mobile Menu.  There have also been reports of external weblinks in some applications, such as the Android Facebook app, behaving oddly.

It's not every link or every user, but it is annoying. It sees to particularly affect older devices that have been upgraded from a previous Android verison to 4.0.

We are working had to identify issues and do what we can to address them. We also expect that bug fixes in subsequent releases of Android 4.0 will solve many of the problems users are experiencing.

This is not unique to Skinny - issues with Ice Cream Sandwich and comoatibility with USSD (the system that the lovely Skinny Mobile Menu uses) have been reported by many other mobile operators, in NZ and abroad.

If you experience an issue while using Android 4.0 on Skinny, please contact us and let us know about it.

Data roaming
We don't currently support data while Skinny users are roaming overseas. We are working on getting agreements in place to sort this out. MMS to international numbers and MMS while roaming are not supported.

Text / SMS Based Services
Some SMS based alerts and services don't work with Skinny at the moment.

Does not work on Skinny:

  • Text-a-park
  • TSB Bank Text Authorisations/Alerts
If there is a service you use regularly that is not working, please do contact us to let us know, and we will make sure they are on our list to fix. We hope to have these sorted by the end of November.
