Unlocking your device
You may want to unlock your device so you can use it on one of the other mobile providers,  or you may want to unlock it so you can use a non Skinny SIM in it when you are roaming.... whatever the reason its a fairly simple thing to do.

You have to keep a few things in mind though, such as we only have unlock codes for the devices that we sell as Skinny devices; so if you have got some funky device from overseas that is locked to an overseas carrier, or you bought off Parallel Imported or from some bloke at school or down the pub, then we cant do anything for you. 

If you try to guess and unlock code, or you incorrectly enter the code we give you too many times, then you will lock your phone for good and thats nasty. 

Do NOT try to randomly 'make up' and unlock code. Unless you are luckier than the whole of Ireland, you won't hit the jackpot.

Some tricky person has spent hours developing these clever algorithms that make sure the device is locked to a network, and they are long and complictaed for that reason.

These unlock codes are NOT a simple code like your PIN number and we don't have any clever override type code if you mess up.

How to unlock
To buy an unlock code, you have to login to My Skinny.  If you have not signed up, you will need to sign up first.  In My Skinny, go to the Do Stuff section and there's a page called Unlock my device where you can get your unlock code.

Once you have your coide, check the instructions below for how to enter it. Its different for each phone, so make sure you read carefully.

The best way to unlock your device is to shove a non Skinny SIM in it and it will prompt you for the unlock code (sometimes called NSCK code). You'll know because it won't let you do anything apart from to enter the code!

When you put the unlock code in on some devices it shows as a *, just like when youre are typing your password in. We suggest you type the number REAL SLOW so you get it right.

 
HUAWEI u2800 
Put a non Skinny SIM in your phone and power it on. You will be prompted for the unlock ('NSCK') code you have got from us, it's a 16 digit number.
 
Type it in nice and slow ;-) If you think you have put the wrong number in then hit the c key to delete the input and re-enter it.  When you have put all 16 digits in then select OK.

If you get it right then the phone will start up as normal.   If you get it wrong it will say Incorrect NSCK code. It will show you then number of chances left to enter the code correctly.  

Each time you get it wrong then the number will get lower.  You only get 10 chances with this device!!! So be careful and don't play around with it.

If you have put the code in 5 times and it's said its incorrect each time then its probably best that you get in touch with a Skinny rep or check the code on the website (it's shown on the My Account Overview page in My Skinny) and we confirm the unlock code for you. 

With this device once its locked, it's locked on all networks. So don't play around trying to crack the code cos you will end up with a brick.


HUAWEI Sonic 
Put a non Skinny SIM in your phone and power it on. You will be prompted for the unlock ('NSCK') code you got from us, it's a 16 digit number.

Type it in nice and slow ;-)   If you think you have put the wrong number in then delete the input and re-enter it.
When you have put all 16 digits in then select OK.

If you get it right then the phone will start up as normal. If you get it wrong it will say Incorrect NSCK code. It will show you then number of chances left to enter the code correctly.

Each time you get it wrong then the number will get lower. You only get 10 chances with this device!!! So be careful and don't play around with it.

When you have entered the unlock code wrong 10 times your device is locked and you won't be able to use it.   You will need to contact one of our lovely Skinny reps for them to sort it for you.


Nokia C2-01 
Put a non Skinny SIM in your phone and power it on.

You will be prompted to enter the unlock ('restriction') code.

The code is exactly how you got it from us - that means you have to enter it INCLUDING those funny looking characters at the start and end.

You will find you cant enter the p,w,+ characters using the normal keys so heres the trick:
  • Press the # key
  • Press the * key 3 times to get the p
  • Press the * key 4 times to get the w
  • Press the * key 2 times to the the +
Type in your 20 digit unlock number slowly and keep checking it to make sure you have it right. If you get a number or character wrong , clear it and re-enter.

When you have entered the 20 digit number:
  • Press the * key twice to get the +
  • Press the 7 key
At this stage, check the number you have types is right, 'cos as soon as you hit # it will send the code to try and unlock the device.

Press the # key.

If you got it right then the device will power up as normal and is unlocked. If you got it wrong it will give you a code error message.

If you have put the code in 5 times and its said its incorrect each time then its probably best that you contact a Skinny rep and they will be able to sort it for you. 

Nokia x3-02 
Put a non Skinny SIM in your phone and power it on.

You will be prompted  to enter the unlock ('restriction') code.

Sony Ericsson (all models)
Put a non Skinny SIM in your phone and power it on.
You will see an unlock screen.

Type in your 16 unlock number slowly and keep checking it to make sure you have it right.

If you get a number or character wrong, clear it and re-enter.

If you got it right then the device will power up as normal and is unlocked.
If you got it wrong it will give you a error message.

If you have put the code in 5 times and its said its incorrect each time then its probably best that you contact a Skinny rep and they will be able to sort it for you.

If you got one of these then you dont have to worry about unlocking the device - its not locked in the first place.

You can just disappear into the sunset at any time. Which is nice (for you).
