The sick guy - Aussie rapper

How come I hadn’t heard about this guy before today? I know! It’s cos I don’t watch commercial television.

But I did catch him tonight at the end of Campbell Live. Christiaan Van Vuuren has been in a Sydney hospital since December 9, 2009. He returned from a trip to South America where he contracted tuberculosis. He’s in isolation. Poor bugger.

So, to while away his days he writes rap songs and posts them on You Tube. Campbell Live have him doing a weekly wrap (rap) each Friday night. They are very funny.

Here’s the first one he did after his quarantine:

Here’s this weeks wrap on Campbell Live.

Hero - Dr Rob Carson

Boy falls off bike.

Boy has a headache.

Boy’s headache worsens.

Mum is a nurse and whips him to the local country hospital.

Boy begins to fall in and out of consciousness.

Doctor recognises bleeding on the brain. “Bugger - I’m only a GP. I’ll phone a neuro surgeon in Melbourne”.

Neuro surgeon tells doctor to drill a hole in boys head.

Doctor grabs his Black and Decker fitted with a 10mm drill bit and goes to work.

Boy survives.

Boy turns thirteen the next day.

Everyone happy, and alive.

Doctor a hero.

Listen to the interview with Dr Rob Carson, GP.

Skinny’s latest artwork

Here’s the latest piece off the easel. It’s an acrylic on canvas of the Tinui fire-station in the Wairarapa.

It measures 800 x 600mm unframed. I’ll consider selling it beforehand, but this is headed for the Affordable Art Auction in Wellington later this year.

Online games are good for you - yeah, right!

TetrisFor anyone who laments the time that young people spend playing games online there’s new research that shows it can be beneficial to your health and well-being. But before your children read this and use it to justify playing Grand Theft Auto it comes with conditions.

Researchers at Oxford University have found that playing the popular computer game “Tetris” shortly after a major shock could reduce the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.

“The researchers who published their findings in the Public Library of Science One journal showed 40 healthy volunteers that included traumatic images of injury from a variety of sources, including adverts highlighting the dangers of drink driving.

After waiting for 30 minutes, 20 of the volunteers played “Tetris” for 10 minutes while the other half did nothing. Those who had played the computer game experienced significantly fewer flashbacks over the next week.”

They don’t know if other games have the same effect (I suspect not).

Perhaps after playing Grand Theft Auto or Halo a quick play of Tetris would return your emotional equilibrium to natural levels. It’s worth a shot.

BankaRate - the best interest rates on offer

RaboPlus, the only AAA bank in New Zealand launched tonight a new website. BankaRate

Called BankaRate it offers high interest Term Deposits on a limited basis for a limited time. In most cases the interest rate is 0.4 to 0.5% above what is offered by any other bank.

The site went live at around 7pm and already by 10.00pm only half the available $100K for 1 month rates were remaining.

I need to confess that I’m the Account Manager for Click Suite responsible for the online activities for RaboPlus - so I do have a vested interest. But I’d challenge anyone out there to show me anything with a better rate and with a better level of security.
